“Mr. President, this is for my friend Ted Kennedy. Aye.”

That’s what Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat, representing West-by-God-Virginia said, apparently defying Senator Tom Coburn's hopes AND prayers by just being there alive, alert and well enough to cast his vote today. But I respectfully suggest that Senator’s Byrd’s vote is also for a few other warriors who could not be here to fight: it’s also for Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson and Sargent Shriver.

Take a breath America.

This is what making history feels like. We’ve been making a lot of it lately, however we may feel about its scale and detail. Regardless of our legitimately dashed expectations, this is history.

Not to have his obstructionist efforts overshadowed, Minority Leader, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said:

I guarantee you the people who voted for this bill will get an earful, when they finally get home for the first time since Thanksgiving.”

--You’re right Senator McConnell, I just called my Senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and thanked them profusely for standing up to cowards and sell outs like you.

Merry Christmas, Mitch.
I couldn't have gotten you a bigger present than the number "60."

McConnell and the rest of his crew will go home and celebrate the fact that they did nothing to help shape this legislation. They will celebrate the "just say no" strategy that they hope will return them to power regardless of the damage being done to the country in the interim. They will wrap themselves in the American flag and sleep the sleep of innocents. Sometimes I long for the evil Santa of Futurama.

While I'm sure they're hi-fiving over the loss of the public option: it's important to remember -the elimination of rescission, "pre-existing condition" qualifiers, and "care caps" are unmitigated defeats for their paymasters in Health Insurance.
Today McConnell looks like an out-of-touch, old dope. It made me laugh real hard.

...I doubt they're gonna sleep well. Wrapping yourself in the American flag only looks makes you look like you are warm.
I think I'm gonna sleep pretty good though.

Well, SJ... you are my Tiny Tim moment on this Christmas Eve...!!! Well said, well writ. It's kind of hard not to be enthused and pleased to be a Democrat that is one of many who FINALLY got together on something! Many of us have felt like Luke Skywalker when Darth Vader tells him HE is his father... WTF? with Barry? But I overhaul it too badly, I know...
and yeah, I'm taking the day ... watching SPIKE...LOL

Merry Christmas Michael!

WELL said, SJ! This is indeed an historic time we are living through. And while this bill is far from perfect, it is a toehold for further progressive change that will benefit all, even the strongest supporters of constipated old naysayers like Mitch McConnell! Merry Christmas, SJ and Michael, and keep up the great work!

Flawed or not, this bill is the beginning to a new and better delivery system of health care.

And to our left leaning friends that are still seething over the loss of the public option. We'll get there soon enough. Take comfort that even the bill we have now pisses off republicans. It must be doing something right.

Good point. They are still opposed in lockstep.

Best number in the "60" range except maybe for one. Great day for America and bad day for the Tea Baggers and those who follow them...
