May Tomorrow Be a Better Day

There's comes a time when you have to face that fact that you've come to the end. I have been contemplating this particular thought for the past 6 months or so. I just don't have anything else constructive to add to the political dialogue among the great group of bloggers that we have gotten to know over the past couple of years, so I think it's time for me to call it a day. I feel like I've said all I have to say. I've gone back and read some of the stuff I wrote during the past couple of years and I realize that as time has gone on, I've become less focused and less effective at making a coherent point. As SJ stated in his recent post, the quality of writing among the blogs I regularly read is outstanding. I certainly feel like there's nothing I could say that couldn't be said equally well or better by a whole host of great writers. You guys are all great (and I won't make the mistake of trying to list you all, but you know who you are)and I would just say, keep on doing what you're doing. As for me, I'll probably spend some time over at my long ignored sports blog. The blog will still be here. Hopefully SJ will continue to add articles from time to time but if not, at least the links will point people in the right direction.

So with more of a whimper than a bang, I wish you all a fond farewell and as Kasey Kasem always says, "keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

Whoa there, just take a month or two off, I understand the block and the burnout, but the more voices out there the sweeter the song. Good luck.

MyCue I have been through the burnout thing. When it happens I just stop taking myself so seriously. By that I mean I just start blogging pictures, humor and fun stories. There is no rule that says we have to be serious all the time. I hope you change your mind. I enjoy reading your stuff, even though we don't agree on what makes a good movie :-) :-)

@Mycue23,
I hope this isn't true.
I think we're always one Olberman "special comment" away from posting something new.

But I'll leave you with one of my favorite exchanges from the movie "Stripes"

SC: [Russell has just accosted John, who is trying to sneak off the base in the middle of the night... Russell has John on the ground]

Russell Ziskey: Where do you think you're going? Are you going AWOL? Are you going AWOL?

John Winger: No, I'm deserting.

Russell Ziskey: You idiot! You desert now, it's a federal offense!

John Winger: I'll take my chances with the feds!

Russell Ziskey: You're not going anywhere!

[pulls him up and throws him up against a tank]

Russell Ziskey: You listen to me! You're gonna finish basic training! You're gonna keep your mouth shut, and you're gonna do everything he tells you! You know why?

John Winger: Why?

Russell Ziskey: Because you talked me into this, you idiot! It was your idea!

So there.

Say it ain't so, Mycue23! IU'm with Holte Ender on this one. Just take some time off and recharge your batteries. You have improved the blogosphere with your intelligence, wisdom, passion, and reason. You genuinely care too much about what's going on in this country and the world to simply fade away. Rest up, and then COME BACK WITH A ROAR! If you don't, you will be causing a very unwanted and unnecessary deprivation to those of us who have followed you and admire your writing. So say it ain't so, Mycue23!

MyCue: We all have our periods of burnout but, like Holte suggests, take a break or post only when you feel like it. We need your voice and your wisdom.

Mycue, I felt the same way this week when I doubted myself and my words on the Bayh post. But I got over it and I hope you get over this too. I look at my blog as a place to rant and express my feeling, whether anger or happiness. Thats all you need to do, just talk to us, tell us what you think. Also blog about fun stuff and happy times, they're out there somewhere right? LOL.

These next 3 years are gonna be flooded with great stuff to talk about! Don't leave us!

Mycue,
Sometimes I fight the feeling of malaise, like it just don't matter what I do. The world continues to go to hell and the ignorant-assed among us continue to spout nonsense. I kind of pick and choose my spots since I don't have a blog. Like an old fighter who chooses to flurry at the end of a round, or to take the middle rounds off. As the evening wears on I get tired and even my comments aren't what they might have been a couple hours earlier.

You may say "No mas" but at a certain point you may have your trainer cut the gloves off while you charge back into the ring to pursue your enemy with only wraps on, as Duran also did during one of his prouder moments.

My God, don't do this!

What makes this whole thing go, the whole lefty blog thing, is that there are now a lot of us.

Just kick back a little. We need all hands on deck!

Good luck to you, I hope this year brings you peace and prosperity! It's been a pleasure knowing you and reading your blog! xo

I’m done. It’s not that I don’t care anymore, it’s just that I don’t have anything else to say. At this point I’m just answering name calling from the right. They call us idiots, so we call them morons. They call the President a socialist, we call GWB an idiot. I used to have points to make, but I don’t anymore. I’ve made my points about GWB, Cheney, Gay rights, racial tension, political infighting, health care, education, the wars, the Constitution, etc. I just don’t have anything new or original to add. Plus, my personal life is a mess and at some point everything else just becomes inconsequential. I apologize if some feel like I’ve let you down somehow, but there’s just no more passion left. The Republicans are going to continue to spew bile and hatred toward the administration, but I just find it hard to muster the outrage to respond anymore. Thankfully, as evidenced by the chain of comments to this post, there are more than enough of you who still have the fire in your belly. So keep up the good fight and I’ll continue to follow this little group of people who I think are the best writers on the web.

MyCue: I completely understand. I started blogging about 6 years ago. I quit right after Katrina...Truth is, I was pregnant with my first and only, and I got scared, and I mean really scared, at the direction the country was going under Bush, and I couldn't write about it anymore. So, I stopped. I didn't start again until 3 years later, when my daughter was going on 3, right before the 2008 democratic primaries. I don't know, I suppose I decided that my strength of will had returned and I found that I wanted to re-find my voice, and it was time to start venting again. That's really what I do - I vent - however, it does run a body down. There are days I don't post, because I feel I have nothing relevant to say.

One of my tricks is my Sunday Potluck - they might have some WTF?? moments, but I really enjoy the Strikes My Fancy moments, because that's the fun stuff we all need as a breather. From Valentines hearts made of manure to whatever might be going on in the science world, it helps keep me sane.

I hope you keep hanging out in your old haunts - if only just to say "hey!" every now and then :)

Michael,
Your words have given me comfort, compassion and a valued tweak of the mind or ethics in short time I've been reading and blogging alongside... I'm sorry I didn't see this... I actually finally caught up with it on MMA in SJ's piece...
Come back Mycue! I want to hear your point of view, please. Don't go away. :-)
